Here I am, in library school, trying to choose a library-related ethical dilemma to explore over the coruse of a semester. This is harder than you would think, not because there are so many (though there are) but rather because my lack of actual library experience means I don't have any personal ethical dilemmas to choose from. Drawing from a list of suggestions, I am currently considering choosing from the following topics:

  • how to develop an environment of ethical awareness in a university library

  • ethical issues in collection development

  • discrimination in an academic library

  • private vs. public self

I am hopeful that a little research into each topic will let me know if I find it intriguing or deadly dull and boring. While each topic initially interests me, I also need one that is meaty enough to study for a few weeks. I am looking forward to seeing how a topic develops, learning how to run a blog site, and to exploring fellow students' blogs throughout the class.
