When discussing and learing about discrimintation it quickly becomes clear that one way to combat discrmination is to promote diversity. This promotional video from the University of Alaska, Anchorage (UAA) does a lovely job of showcasing the diversity on their campus through faculty stories. While this video does not focus on the university library, the library is always an integral part of any univerisity. I chose this video because it promotes campus-wide diversity and I think it is a good example of how such a video can be done.
Watching this video made me want to have my kids research UAA, until I remembered how cold it gets in Alaska and how far away it is from Texas. I think this video does a great job at promoting a personal connection to viewers, which will go far in making the campus look like an inclusive place to study or work. Personal stories are useful in promoting diversity because they make a connection. I think using other stories and videos like this one can be an excellent educational tool since they often elicit an emotional response and people are more responsive to emotion than logic in many cases.
